To Save the Date... or Not?
A growing trend in recent years, Save-the-Dates allow your guests to mark their calendars in advance and make any necessary travel arrangements for your wedding date. Though in most cases this is not required or even expected, it is an added convenience for your guests, as it helps them plan for your wedding with ease. There are some cases; however, in which I consider Save-the-Dates more of a necessity: destination weddings OR anytime you foresee many out of town guests in attendance.
Save-the-Dates typically include the following information: the bride and groom's names, the date (hence, the title), and the city/state in which you are getting married. When you anticipate many out of town guests, you should plan ahead by blocking off rooms at local hotels where special group rates will be available to your guests. These hotel accommodations should then be included with your Save-the-Dates. Most couples today will also create a wedding website to include important information on the ceremony & reception, directions, hotels and other travel particulars. Since the majority of your guests are internet savvy, it's helpful to include this website on your Save-the-Date too.
When should I send my Save-the-Dates?
Six months is ideal, unless you and/or your guests will be traveling outside the country, in which I suggest nine months.
Should my Save-the-Dates match the invitations to follow?
